Antique Boteh Malayer

$1,300.00

#2509 Antique all-over boteh Malayer
4’-0” x 6’-3”

AGE & ORIGIN:
1st Q. 20th C.
Persia

OVERVIEW:
A very fine Malayer with an all-over boteh motif. Weavers from Malayer choose from a very wide design pool to choose from. This results in rugs like the one seen here. While this is an all-over boteh (also an incredibly common motif for Malayer pieces), it only seems that way from a distance, and when the viewer examines the field closer, more scenes come into view. It benefits us to not be dogmatic when looking at these abstract designs, but it’s difficult to not see the boteh as a cypress tree being held by a human shape, a blue stork-like shape, twin mirrored small botehs acting as eyes to a face…the list could continue, but we’ll leave the rest to the discretion of the viewer.

CONDITION:
Good condition with even wear
